What is it?
Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid, a group of naturally occurring "fruit acids", this one is a derivative of sugar cane. To learn more about AHA's, read our AHA Blog.
Why is it important?
There is a reason glycolic acid is a well known and loved ingredient. It does so much for us. It removes dead skin cells, promotes cellular turnover, stimulates collagen production and removes excess oil.
In turn, it helps achieve healthier, younger looking skin, improved skin texture, tone and complexion. It can help accelerate skin healing, reduce signs of environmental damage, soften the look of lines and wrinkles and and plump your skin. It may also help with some other problematic skin issues like black heads, hyper pigmentation, enlarged pores, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris.
Important to Note!
- The skin may need to get used to it at first- a percentage that is high may cause redness or flaking.
- Use of multiple products containing Vitamin A, AHA’s or taking Accutane (acne medication) may cause a reaction as the skin is already sensitized. Retinol and AHA can be used together but should be done carefully.
- It sensitizes the skin to the sun, so its extra important to wear SPF when using any AHA products to protect the skin from UVB rays.
How to use it?

Because of this, they are generally night time products. We do have some products with lower strengths that would be considered safe to be used in the daytime as well.
